Living Shelter Design is a woman-owned architectural firm specializing in delightful, healthy, and energy efficient custom homes, home remodels, cottage communities, and smaller community buildings. Through collaboration and creative process, we interpret your dreams and goals into a personal place integrated with the gifts of the site.
While the largest portion of our work is in the custom home realm, we also really enjoy smaller community projects such as Camp Shelters, Retreat Centers, and Visitor Centers. As a certified women owned business and WMBE member, we are a perfect partner to include in proposals for publicly funded projects of this scope.
Living Shelter Design has been in business since 1992, serving clients in Central and Western Washington and Northern Oregon. We have practiced and promoted sustainable building methods from the start, so bring a depth of experience and understanding to reach today’s leading edge project goals, such as:
- Increasing the passive solar capability of your current home or community building with well-placed glazing, trellises and interior mass
- Adding or converting space for lifelong health and accessibility for aging in place and rental income in a future-proofing remodel
- Creating a new place with local and natural materials that generates the power and gathers the water it uses in an annual cycle.
Whether for personal or community use, our favorite projects integrate appropriate old-world materials and methods into energy efficient designs and traditional forms. Timber frames, insulating block forms, and straw bale and straw-clay walls are all familiar and welcome to us, as are stud-framed systems designed for superior energy efficiency.
Why use a professional for your home design? Because your home will be pleasingly proportioned, use space wisely, be super comfortable, cost less to operate, and retain a higher value in the future. Give us a call or fill out our contact form and see how we can help you!
