We strive to make sustainable design affordable and accessible. As part of our ongoing commitment to making sustainable design ideas and practices accessible to the broader community, we share knowledge through workshops, speaking engagements, and free podcast downloads available through our companion website, The Eco-Logical Home.
We are proud partners in Yakima’s Leading Force Energy and Design Center, a Central Washington community resource where experts and novices alike can access sustainable products and integrated design services.
We are practiced in straw bale, ICF, and traditional timber frame construction. As building science continues to evolve, we stay on the leading edge of new sustainable design techniques, strategies, and materials through active memberships in organization such as the Northwest EcoBuilding Guild, the International Living Future Institute, and Built Green – just to name a few!
Straw Bale Workshops
Participating in the building process is a unique learning experience and a great way to forge a connection with your home. Each year we look for workshop opportunities on home sites where homeowners and workshop participants can learn the theory and practice of alternative construction methods.
Similar to an old-fashioned barn raising, workshops are a way to bring like-minded people together to accomplish a lot of work in the space of a few days. In the process, people develop skills and connections that extend beyond the workshop.
A wide range of topics is covered both in the orientation sessions and during the hands-on demonstration and construction. These workshops are suitable for anyone who has an interest in exploring the craft of home construction utilizing alternative materials and methods.
We work with homeowners to coordinate all aspects of the workshops. Please contact us if you would like us to consider a workshop on your site.
